Catherine Daley

Catherine Daley is an interdisciplinary artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She works in sculpture, photography, and painting. A photojournalist for 10 years in Sacramento, California, Catherine turned her creative eye to fine art photography and sculpture. After graduating from Sonoma State University in 2013, the University purchased her artwork in 2015 for permanent display on campus. While the impetus for her artwork is centered around the environment, Catherine also creates works that are deeply personal and relate to current events.

“My love of nature and the natural order of things are central to my artwork. I hope to persuade the viewer into a greater awareness, and then to a deeper appreciation of nature with the goal of “we protect what we love”, thus my work ranges from awe to activism. I prefer materials that create a more contemporary sensibility and often combine a variety of them. Often the work itself dictates the direction of my art. I enjoy not controlling all aspects with chaos as a natural process, allowing for a more random, and therefore, unique result or an evolution. While the impetus for the majority of my artwork is centered around the environment, I also enjoy creating works that arise from the deeply personal or that relate to current events.”
